Abstract
The goal of this Panel is to share the project for protecting global linguistic diversity for the establishment of a culture of peace that Linguapax International has developed over nearly four decades (since 1987). We will present the various perspectives that have linked languages with contemporary social, cultural, and technological dynamics and will try to foresee, based on current trends and treatment of this diversity, what future we can expect.
We will analyse how concepts, discourses, and predominant actions in the field of linguistic diversity have adapted and evolved to suit each context and current needs. We will also explain the role that Linguapax has played and can play, as a global NGO that enables the collaboration of multiple initiatives across various thematic and geographical areas. And how, with the aim of proposing fair and suitable models of linguistic coexistence for different linguistic communities, it articulates a network of experts, entities, and communities that, through their interaction, help each other analyse problems to be solved, define major shared objectives, and design effective strategies.
To discuss the instruments that have been created and developed, and the strategies that have been implemented and their effectiveness in different parts of the world, the heads of Linguapax's continental delegations will exemplify successful experiences on promoting linguistic rights, linguistic revitalization, or multilingual education with concrete cases. They will show how communities and organized civil society can contribute to analysing global problems, defining projects, and implementing them on the ground.
